by Eileen Winfrey

Selling Your Pet's HomeAmericans love their animals. There are approximately 70 million pet dogs in the U.S. and more than 74 million cats, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. Millions of other households have fish, hamsters, reptiles, birds, and exotic animals.

But selling a home with pets can be a challenge. While you might consider them part of the family, not everyone agrees. Trust me, I understand, as the dog in this photo is my Mr. Blu, one of the four furry members of our family. However, I've had many Buyer's walk into homes and say "oh no, they have pets".

Buyers want to envision themselves living in your space, and that means hiding any evidence that Fluffy or Fido lives there too. One whiff of a dirty litter box, or view of a mess in the yard, could completely ruin a showing to your potential home buyers.

Prepping your and your pet's home for sale doesn’t have to be difficult, though. By following a few essential steps, you’ll preserve the value of your home during the selling process as well as make your home stand above the rest!
